Episode 113

Precious, Metal Fans & Robins Unleashed

Show broadcast on 16 April 2016

The last ever Saturday 10-1 show this week, as the boys are moving to a new time slot (more info in the podcast), but that doesn't mean an end to any of the badinage. This week we're treated to John's university radio shows, and if you can imagine a drunk lone Robins talking about Lou Reed for 2 hours then you'll be very prepared for what you're about to hear. There's also a glimpse into Johnny Vaughan's Drive time show, some travel advice, and an imagined peak into Producer Dave's marriage. Plus all the usual - Textual Healing, Winner Plays On, Humble Brag Of The Week (note the spelling of 1ère), Email Of The Species, Elis' Gig Diaries and the return of Tick Off A Taste.

Podcast intro

Elis and John riff on what it would be like if they were cool dads trying to keep their kids in check but also trying to demonstrate that they're still cool and with it.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is the man many think responsible for the football song that goes 'duh, duh duh, duh duh duh-duh-duh!'"

Conversations and riffs

John makes up some on-the-spot football chants.

With his girlfriend still away, John's Project Solitude is getting to a desperate stage.

The texts and tweets that came into Johnny Vaughan's show prior to this are still on the monitors in the studio and it seems Johnny had run a text-in topic on ,What's your favourite bus?'.

Following on from John's recent broadcasting solo while covering Ricky Wilson's Sunday show (#RobinsUnleashed), John has unearthed archive footage of himself hosting student radio back in the day, excerpts of which are played here.

Textual Healing

A listener calls the show with a problem.

Young Joe has agreed to go on holiday with a woman he hasn't seen for two and a half years who he might fancy but is also very annoying. John: "Go! Get some metaphorical hiking boots that - for people like me and Elis - have worn away."

Elis' Gig Diaries

Elis reads aloud from diaries he kept during his early stand-up days.

In July 2005, Elis tries topical comedy. Unfortunately, ,Geordie Financial Year' may no longer be topical enough. Robins urges Elis to get his details on the Comedy CV website.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Looking for Facebook recommendations for a chic Lebanese restaurant for when you and your best friend visit Paris (he is an Austro-Serbian prince btw).

Elis and John work out that a French 1-er / one-er would be a 1ère.

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

Footballer Robbie Savage (Elis) v Frank Zappa (John). John wins 3-1.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

Chilli gummy bears ('Satan's Spawn') from Leeds Chilli Shop. Elis' personal Project Spice continues as tonight he will attempt a Madras or Vindaloo curry for dinner.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

Robert Johnson (Elis)
