Episode 119

Bushcraft, Bands In Small Places & Kazakh Billlionaires

Show broadcast on 28 May 2016

This week we relive John's much anticipated bushcraft course through an audio diary recorded by the man himself. Was he able to whittle a spoon out of wood? Did he manage to pass the course? And what was the toilet situation? Rest assured, all of these questions, and more, are answered. Meanwhile, Elis is accused of cheating the system in Winner Plays On, and recounts the time he nearly compared himself to a famous civil rights leader during a stand up routine.

Podcast intro

A PCD has checked out Amazon's recommendations for other books that customers bought after buying 'Poptastic' by Tony Blackburn. They are all very on brand.

There seems to be no record of Elis' standup bit 'Geordie Financial Year' so John is trying to convince him to perform it at the upcoming live show 'The Elis James and John Robins Experience'.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left, joining us in this Radio X bush craft special, is commercial digital radio's least experienced woodsman."

Conversations and riffs

John has been on his bush craft course in Sussex. His first task was to choose a wilderness name for himself. He kept an audio diary, excepts of which are played out on the show.

Elis' Gig Diaries

Elis reads aloud from diaries he kept during his early stand-up days.

Idea: Elis could compare himself to Martin Luther King. Elis does a gig in Cardiff but the microphone is in Pontypridd.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

So many Ferraris but all the keys look the same. That sunburn really brings out your abs. You're just like most (billionaire) working mothers.

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

It has emerged that Elis' choice of the band Pavement as subject for Winner Plays On for the previous three weeks had already been done in an earlier episode!

The film Highlander (John) v 1950s Welsh footballer John Ford (Elis). Elis wins 4.5-3.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
