Episode 126

Richard Madeley's Mind, Double Billy & Cue Murder

Show broadcast on 16 July 2016

Some niche gardening advice this week from Elis & John, potential crime novel titles, a stressful IKEA anecdote, and some...interesting...views on speech impediments (aka tongue vibes). All this plus Humble Brag Of The Week, Winner Plays On and Email Of The Species.

Podcast intro

Dirty protests in the Radio X toilets. Elis makes Producer Dave feel uncomfortable by complimenting his arms. John explains what the 'PCD' sign on a motorway means.

The term 'Retro 1-er Elect' is coined for PCDs who are in the process of going back and listening to all the podcasts from the start.

Someone has emailed in to mock-complain (probably) about the use of the term 'devotee' in 'PCD'.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is the newly elected Minister For The Past. "

Conversations and riffs

Elis had to take a photo with a PCD while sporting his new severe haircut.

John reports back from his Take That gig.

Did you know Richard Madeley writes thriller literature?

John has moved into his new house and got a bit tipsy in the afternoon while his neighbour talked him through his new garden. The big spider is still in the gas meter box.

The two try to delicately discuss Daniel Radcliffe's slight speech impediment where J's sound a bit like G's. But wouldn't that mean he would refer to his famous wizard character as Garry Potter? John: "Coming up is Humblebrag" Elis: "Gumblebrag?!"

Could John and Elis do PHDs?

There's discussion of Producer Dave's new club night called All My Friends but E and J want to call it Dancing With Dave. John wonders whether the Masterman timber fortune has been invested into this: "Is it providing the timber? Are the decks actual decks?"

Ideas for titles of snooker-based crime novels, as Ronnie O'Sullivan is publishing one.

Elis is asked to riff to fill some space: "Right... Saturday... what are you up to?"

John describes a stressful visit to Ikea to try to obtain a 'Double Billy' bookcase.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Please can everyone who celebrated your birthday tag themselves on your Facebook, because you've got too many friends to do it yourself. ("Thanks for watching"...?!?!)

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

The Lord of the Rings (John) v Neil Kinnock (Elis). Elis wins 4-2.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

Ginseng sweets.

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

John is dismayed that Producer Dave and Elis both have 22k Twitter followers.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

60 Ft. Dolls (Elis)
