Episode 158

White Paint, The Big 41 and Solo Female Pub Advice

Show broadcast on 25 February 2017

Elis had a big surprise this week from one of his all-time heroes, whilst John described his best night ever. The boys also discussed radioactive protection and how to change the rules on Beta Bet next week. Plus Jeremy Clarkson on ties.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is the first Welshman to own a 486 PC computer, purchased in December last year. "

Conversations and riffs

John has had possibly the best night of his life: He visited a new pub on his own, read a novel that he realised too deep into it is an erotic novel set in Victorian times, went home and defrosted a vegetarian chilli con carne, then found eight episodes of All New Traffic Cops that he hasn't seen yet.

John has been re-gifted a present from a listener: a Queen branded pint glass and bottle of Bohemian lager celebrating the 41st anniversary of the release of Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes, the big 41.

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

The Daily Mirror is promoting white paint. Jeremy Clarkson railing against having to wear a tie.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

A 20-year-old lie dating back to when a listener, as a 12 year old, told an on-the-spot fib to explain being late for something - that a man had tried to get him in his car. The lie inadvertently escalated to the point that his parents, neighbours, the police and local newspaper all were involved in trying to raise awareness of this fictional man.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Forcing a homeless person to pose for a selfie with you in return for fish and chips and ten cigarettes. Pretending to be a stranger posting on your FB profile from a library computer that you left logged into FB, posting a compliment on your own beauty but being caught out when commenters point out the post was made via mobile. Elis: "If I did that I would move to the moon."

Betabet

Elis and John compete to name as many things as possible on a theme in alphabetical order in 30 seconds.

Capital cities of the world. Two terrible performances but John somehow wins 4-3.

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

Tips for enjoying a solo pub trip.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions
