Episode 169

Scoop Angels, The M4 & All the Mammals

Show broadcast on 13 May 2017

There aren't many podcasts that ask you the question. 'Are you absolutely haunted by your past?' - 'YES PLEASE!' This week we've got plenty of shame - some of it is Phillip Larkin, some of it is in very poor French and there are even some dark memories about a science teacher. Great. There are humble brags, a comprehensive (but light-hearted) paper review, a typical Beta-Bet and not to mention a STACK of emails. All this plus an impromptu edition of John Googling the travel. It turns out that it's really just a hobby of his.

Podcast intro

Elis mentions 'Bobby Busters', a primary school version of Blockbusters organised by Daffyd Powys Police.

John's introduction of Elis

"If you've noticed pop-up dog waste bins in Bangor, you've got the man to my left to thank. His plan to clean up the streets of north Wales and, quote, "Rid the skid" is in its second week. His plucky volunteers, or "scoop angels", have already collected 12 kilos of matter, which is on display in a massive set of scales in Llandudno town centre."

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

The Daily Mirror's gadget of the week is the cheese grater (available from Amazon). People tend to graze rather than eat three square meals a day. Amanda Patel hiding a Jilly Cooper novel in a Roy Jenkins biography even though she likes "bonk-busters", romps in the hay, handsome cads and horse sweat.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

Interviewing for a French teaching PGCE course but realising in the interview you don't know much French.

Betabet

Elis and John compete to name as many things as possible on a theme in alphabetical order in 30 seconds.

Mammals. John wins 10-3.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

Fun' tictac-like sweets that taste like a science teacher's breath.
