Episode 187

Bum End, I'll take bum & The Grumpiest Angel in Heaven

Show broadcast on 30 September 2017

If you're going to have a replacement, you may as well have a replacement who's as easy on the eye as Ed Gamble. Have you seen that jaw!? Elis was away on Welsh stand up duties and Ed filled in brilliantly. It was a 'bum' heavy show, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. There was a Humblebrag update (thought to be a first for the medium), a reminiscent Made Up Game, a cracking (bum pun) Paper Review and plenty of quallo badinage.

Podcast intro

Shame Well-style email from a listener who as a kid had his carefully thought out question to Nick Heyward on live TV stolen by someone else.

A strange place people listen to the podcast: in a barn helping a goat give birth.

John's introduction of Elis

"We are sans Elis as he's off filming his Welsh-language comedy special. We wish him good luck and sincerely hope his audience both enjoy themselves. In his stead, making his Radio X debut, the chiselled jaw, the busted pancreas of comedian, actor and the country's leading diabetist, it's Mr Ed Gamble. "

Conversations and riffs

Ed talks us through alternative and metal bands.

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

Ed Gamble's LHPR: Rude street names can put off potential house buyers, but also sometimes not. Tips for growing your own fruit in small spaces. Osama Vin Laden has been named to the Peruvian U-15 football team.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

Avoiding a difficult sales call by cutting off the salesman and leaving the phone off the hook then discussing it with your work colleague, only to realise the call is still live, the salesman heard everything and he has remote control of your computer!

Made-Up Games

Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.

Quizipedia: You each pick a specialist topic that is covered on a Wikipedia page, then answer questions on it with answers based on facts from the page. First question is from first intro/overview paragraph, second from the 'quick facts' drop down, and so on.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

Ouzo-flavoured sweets.

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

Some wackaging about slippers that "let you see the world the way it really is". Plus follow @nocontextvibes, a fan twitter account for Elis & John musings tweeted out of context.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
