Live At The Comedy Store!
Show broadcast on 22 December 2018
Well there you have it hammer legends. 250 solid gold episodes from Elis & John. The occasion was marked with a stonking live show in London's Comedy Store! 400 legends took their seats and the live vibe took flight. Majestic. Expect guests, games, shame (obviously), celebration and a generous slice of The Lovely Robin. Lovely stuff.
The intro comes live from The Harp pub following the live radio show at the Comedy Store. John is surrounded by some luminaries of Radio X (Elis couldn't make it) plus Gus from Alt-J (with a scatological shame well) and the Lovely Robin.
John's introduction of Elis
"To my left is Elis James and to my front: one-ers, retro one-ers, panini one-ers, zig-zaggers, Widdicombe defectors, live vibe tasters - approximately 398 copper-bottomed hammer legends as we broadcast live from London's Comedy Store!"
Conversations and riffs
John has made an effort for the show, wearing a crushed velvet suit from the year 2000 and that saw him through some early-noughties life events.
Several friends of the show are in the audience: comedian Ed Gamble, journalist Barry Glendenning, the Lovely Robin, Australian import-PCD Scott Long, PCD illustrators Jenny Grene and Lise Richardson, and Gus from Alt-J, who John talks tax and royalties arrangements with.
PCD statistician Ross Middleton has prepared a quiz for Elis and John about the lifetime of the show.
John's Shame Well
John frees another listener of their shame.
Some live shame from a member of the audience. 'Dave' left some Guinness underpants and a sex aid at his girlfriend's very religious parents' house, which they then delivered back to him.
The Potato Potato Years
A trip down memory lane to a classic game of 'Potato Potato' from yesteryear.
Due to public demand, 'Potato Potato' is being retired and replaced with... 'The Potato Potato Years', a retrospective of the best of 'Potato Potato'. This week, the duo look back to 4 August 2018.
Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.
Guess The Age: John has made up a game that involves Elis and John guessing the ages of members of the audience.
Tick Off a Taste
The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.
Pink testosterone drink.
Also, in reference to episode 248's taste, somebody made the guys a puberty cake.
Email of the Species
Listeners' emails into the show.
A live rendition of the 'Email of the Species' jingle by the audience. Yet more correspondence about how to wipe your bum: back to front (Elis: "His perineum must be a theatre of conflict.") and full standing-up toileting.
The 'Keep It Session' Sessions
A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
A special little acoustic set from the Lovely Robin (Allender) recorded at the Comedy Store after the live 250th show.
