Episode 47

French Idiots, Side-stage at Queen, Oxford University and Elis' Picks for 2015

Show broadcast on 3 January 2015

Welcome to 2015 and the all-new Elis James and John Robins show! Well, it's not really that new. It's pretty much the same. But that's a good thing, right? Anyway this week Elis and John returned from their Christmas (Cringle) breaks with tales of opening for Queen's New Year's Eve gig, a dad defending his son with an umbrella, and a problem regarding cats. Plus there's Winner Plays On, Teenage Fanclub, and chapter 8 of John's Autobiography.

Podcast intro

John accidentally lets slip that the podcast only has two listeners.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is the man who, if rumours are to be believed, is slated to play the lead in the big screen adaptation of Last of the Summer Wine. "

Conversations and riffs

On New Year's Eve, John supported his favourite rock band Queen in London.

Elis has to riff on air to try to come up with some tips for new bands to watch out for in 2015.

Both Elis and Producer Dave are going to stag parties in Barcelona at the same time, and John is upset about that.

Text-in topic

Listeners text and tweet during the show on this week's topic.

When has someone stood up for you or exhibited an act of bravery on your behalf?

Textual Healing

A listener calls the show with a problem.

Mrs Jones' cat doesn't like her.

Teenage Fanclub

Listeners' teenage obsessions around bands, films, crushes at school, etc, and their creative endeavours related to expressing this.

That time you wrote the next instalment in the Rambo film series and pitched it directly to Sylvester Stallone via a recorded message on cassette tape.

A Robins Amongst the Pigeons

John reads aloud from his autobiography.

Chapter 8: Robins is a fresher at Oxford University with a Mohican, a pipe and a velvet jacket.

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

The Motorway Service Stations of England and Wales (John) v the city of Swansea (Elis). Elis wins 3-0.

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

There's someone on Channel 4's Gogglebox that sounds like he could be Producer Dave's dad.
