Episode 129

The Thoughtful Beefcake, Eedjits & Pipes

Show broadcast on 6 August 2016

Who lives in Aylesbury? How loud can John shriek? What is coffee? All these questions answered, sort of, in this week's podcast, plus a first for the show and an unintentional Peter Kay impression.

Podcast intro

The term 'Panini 1-er' / 'Panini One-er' is coined to describe someone who is listening to the latest podcast episodes while also working through the back catalogue from the start, i.e. gradually squeezing the gap like the two pieces of bread in a sandwich.

Elis reckons he knows all the Welsh people who like the things he likes.

A PCD baby has been named Elis.

Suggestions for songs to play while walking down the aisle at a wedding and for the newly weds' first dance. Elis reckons his body would "fall apart from the inside" under the scrutiny of having to do the first dance at his wedding.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left is a man with his finger so much on the pulse that he has been made head of Barry Island's Blood Pressure Society. "

Conversations and riffs

John is having trouble with his pipes (water, at home) and had a recent trip to Dublin.

Elis bought a single pair of chopsticks for his girlfriend's birthday and had a first visit with a personal trainer as he wants to become the "thoughtful beefcake".

John: "Elis and John - driving the juggernaut that's delivering the very best in banter to a depot near you."

Elis and John talk real ale festivals.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Writing a poem in a night club, instead of dancing.

Winner Plays On

Elis and John face off in the weekly quiz on topics of their choice.

Euro 96 (Elis) v The Highway Code (John). Elis wins 4-2.5 (lots of half points flying around during John's topic but Elis definitely won).

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

Related to the aforementioned spider living in John's gas meter cupboard, someone has sent in a photo of a massive spider he found in his home in Australia.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

Jason Molina (John)
