Episode 166

Evacuating the Darkness, Boring Shiny & Honig & Senf

Show broadcast on 22 April 2017

Back to business as usual this week with Elis back from the beekeeping. Also, an almost rejuvenated Robins has got an important prepared statement for the ears of the nation. Lots to chat about as well - Elis' new mate Chris Sutton, a Humble-Brag run in with the law and a whole host of tastes that got ticked right off! There's also the Paper Review, yet more drama in Beta-Bet and an exposé into shame and how it is introduced into the education system... How early is too early for shame?

John's introduction of Elis

"Radio show starts with announcement from John celebrating Bohemian Rhapsody being voted Best of British in the Radio X polls on Monday 17 April. JR's one-man campaign to get Queen added to the Radio X playlist has now been ratified by the British people's landmark vote."

Conversations and riffs

Last week, Elis interviewed a beekeeper and John got food poisoning for the first time from a can of bean sprouts that he is still recovering from. His skin looks better though. Elis: 'Do you think you've evacuated your darkness?'

They talk about John's piece on last week's Premier League Show, which Elis was also a guest on. His co-guest was Chris Sutton, who thought John was weird. In turn, John doesn't like Chris Sutton because he was a too-common sticker in the 92-93 Panini sticker album.

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

Speed-watching programmes to save time. Extreme multi-tasking and time-saving methods from the best business world, including wearing the same outfit everyday and breaking your calendar up into five-minute segments.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

Swearing at an obnoxious driver (and his family) on the M25 then realising they were trying to tell you were driving without lights on. Writing an inappropriate message in a fellow child's birthday card.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Humble brag: An incredible account of a guy being pulled over by the cops in his Lamborghini (or is it a Ferrari? He seems confused) while wearing his red Gucci shoes.

Betabet

Elis and John compete to name as many things as possible on a theme in alphabetical order in 30 seconds.

UK Cities. Elis wins 9-8.

Tick Off a Taste

The gang try a new taste sensation sent in by a listener.

German crisps and sweet-flavoured water. Elis mainlines a sugar powder straight into his mouth and discovers "why German kids are so disciplined".

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

Bonnie Prince Billy back catalogue recommendations from Robins
