Ladies Only BBQ, Vodka Luge & Queer Eye

Show broadcast on 30 June 2018

"We work together, we love each other" - Elis James & John Robins, 30th June 2018, 2.52pm. There's lots of affection today with things returning to business as usual after a week of drive. John tells Elis about his favourite new show and Elis continues to let himself down when it comes to quick-thinking games. All this plus the Humblebrags, some unavoidable shame and some BBQ-ending lust.

Podcast intro

Following on from a texter subject when E & J stood in for Johnny Vaughan on 'Drive' this week, a listener has contacted them about an unusual role they played in their school play. They played an LED in a play explaining the inner workings of a computer. To portray the flashing action of an LED they were dressed in swimming shorts and a trench coat that they opened and closed repeatedly in Friday by of an audience of parents.

A debate over whether or not you should wash a coffee jar.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left, a man who is currently petitioning Parliament to take a vote on his proposal for HS5. The high-speed rail link would connect Carmarthen with Llandwrog, cutting the commute from the current five hours 54 minutes to a little over three hours. The route would stop at Llandysul, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth and Porthmadog, and speaking at a launch event he said, "This will turn Wales inside out. If the government back this plan, a sanitary product salesman could leave Blaina at breakfast and be in Minffordd by midday." Independent costings put the plan at just under £12 billion, which he hopes to part fund through raffles, sponsored walks and naming rights. "

Conversations and riffs

John provides some fun facts about how merch sales commission works at gig venues.

John makes the case for why Elis should watch Queer Eye For The Straight Guy.

Listeners text and tweet during the show on this week's topic.

Following a request from a hen party listening, the guys take off their tops and describe their chests, then invite other hot guys with sexy chests to text or tweet in.

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

Where would vodka pour out of an ice sculpture of himself? John discovers that snooker player Steve Davis is a big fan of Frank Zappa.

An America special: Mayor in Michigan asks people not to talk to him while jogging. American travels 4000 miles to tag someone 'you're it' in the UK. Baseball fan gets hit in the face by a free hot dog.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

Post-pregnancy, suddenly and desperately needing a pee whilst in a clothes shop changing room, relieving yourself on the carpet which then has a chemical reaction due to the carpet shampoo, plus revealing your polka dot underwear during the escape route through the shop.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

Oops, dropped your phone in your jacuzzi!

Charging your Tesla electric car will be so expensive!

What if no-one turns up to your gig at the O2 because the England footy game is on?

Elis and John come up with a new tag line for the show: "We work together. We love each other."

Made-Up Games

Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.

Celebrities (or Straight To Death as E & J re-christen it because if you lose as soon as you can't produce a name): take it in turns to name celebrities in a given field (e.g. film stars) where the first name of the next celebrity must start with the same letter that begins the last name of the previous celebrity.

Email of the Species

Listeners' emails into the show.

Flossing in public on a train. Cutting toenails on a train!

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions
