Episode 227

Indie World Cup, Childcare Permitting & Queen Eye For The Gay Guy

Show broadcast on 7 July 2018

Sometimes, John wants to put out his eyes. Other times he's just lobbying Elis to say YES. It was a show that critics may have called "distracted" given the football vibes moving through the studio - but there wasn't one moment where the badinage was in question. You can still expect Humblebrags, John's gig diaries and almost a third of the show dedicated to something that was definitely NOTHING to do with FIFA.

Podcast intro

More unusual nativity play casting: being cast as Rodney Trotter.

A rare offering of 'Pub Porn' by a listener: playing an extra in a beer commercial in a pub where you have to celebrate England winning at football.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left, we are honoured to have with us the author of 'Moss, Slate and Coal: Aromatherapy for a Modern Wales'."

Conversations and riffs

Following last week's conversation, Elis watched his first episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and reports back to John. Then they riff on an idea where John would present Queen Eye For The Gay Guy, to help people get more Queen-based music, clothing and memorabilia into their lives.

A convoluted game of Indie World Cup with bands replacing countries (not officially endorsed by FIFA, in fact they don't know anything about this).

Elis: Is there too much sky?

Text-in topic

Listeners text and tweet during the show on this week's topic.

In a blatant rip-off of a Danny Wallace idea from several years ago, Elis is going to start saying 'yes' to things more often, childcare permitting and as long as it doesn't involve giving John a thousand pounds. However, he is off to a poor start. He invites listeners to text or tweet requests that he MIGHT say yes to.

John's Gig Diaries

John reads aloud from diaries he kept during his early stand-up days.

What if John were to start a religion? The despair of being sober in a nightclub. John had excellent banter at a gig - there was an audience member in the front row wearing bowling shoes and John really made him pay.

Made-Up Games

Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.

Do They Share A Border? Take two countries and guess whether they share a border or not.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.
