Vicar Elis, Wnco Mwnco & John's Bag of Death

Show broadcast on 6 October 2018

PCDs, here's what you will learn from this week's audio hammer... what fascinating* item did John find in the studio? What's the correct age to show your child the film, 'The Fly'? Plus how long can the boys plank for, while rapping the lyrics to Sugar Hill Gang's seminal hit 'Rapper's Delight'?

*Not fascinating

All that PLUS Humblebrags, John's Gig Diary and Elis' Light Hearted Paper Review!

Podcast intro

John's girlfriend is at his house while he is broadcasting and he is worried that she will find his bag of death.

John answers a very young Queen fan's questions about the band's songs including which one has the rudest words in.

John's introduction of Elis

"To my left, the man Gaby Roslin called 'My rightful heir'."

Conversations and riffs

An anecdote from Elis about sharing a spot on live TV with East 17 several years ago. And this week he met Ralph Steadman, the Welsh artist who has worked with Hunter S. Thompson and Frank Zappa, for a documentary. Steadman did a painting of Elis that might be worth lots of money.

Meanwhile, John realised he hadn't done any steps one day so walked to a graveyard.

Elis James' Light-Hearted Paper Review

Elis' selection of humorous stories from this week's newspapers.

My name is Michael Caine and I say the key to a long and successful relationship is separate bathrooms. Daily Mirror's gadget of the week is the Henry Hoover. James Bond might have been named after a Welshman. A coffee shop chain is planning to offer free coffee in exchange for customers' personal data.

John's Shame Well

John frees another listener of their shame.

Pretending to be a vampire to scare your friend but annoying your taxi driver instead.

John's Gig Diaries

John reads aloud from diaries he kept during his early stand-up days.

At the ripe old age of 23, John feels disconnected to the young generation so volunteers to do 200 hours volunteer time at a youth centre. He lasts four hours.

Humblebrag

More examples of that scourge of social media, the humblebrag.

When you forget that you have your own swimming pool. Being so successful that you know the names of everyone who works in your local bistro and your barber calls you to book an appointment.

Welsh Word of the Week

Elis picks out a curious Welsh word.

'Wnco Mwnco', meaning 'Him over there'.

Made-Up Games

Listeners suggest made-up games that Elis and John can play.

Planker's Delight: Elis and John take it in turns to get as far as they can through the lyrics to Rapper's Delight whilst holding their body in the plank position to work out their core muscles. Try it at home! You could swap in whatever song you would prefer.

The 'Keep It Session' Sessions

A special section at the end of the podcast for music recommendations.

Alice Coltrane - jazz musician (Elis)
